How can writing profiles of local community members teach students useful skills like researching, asking effective questions, listening, note-taking, fact-checking, storytelling, connecting with experts and, of course, writing and editing with clarity, voice and style?

In this webinar, we will introduce our brand-new Profile Contest and related writing unit, show you how the contest can work in any subject area, and share tips, stories and “craft moves” from New York Times experts.

The webinar will feature two Pulitzer Prize-winning Times journalists: Todd Heisler, a photojournalist, and Corey Kilgannon, a reporter whose profiles of ordinary New Yorkers helped inspire the contest. The two have often worked together to bring projects like this to life.

New York educators may receive C.T.L.E. credit. All participants will receive a certificate of completion.
